Betty Sue Montag
September 7, 1946 - July 18, 2020
Our beautiful mother Betty Sue Montag, age 73, passed away embraced in the love of her children on July 18, 2020 in Provo, Utah. She was born September 7, 1946 to Charles and Deloris Taylor in Pinckneyville, Illinois. She lived in Pinckneyville until she was 5 years old when her family moved to Gary, Indiana where her father worked for Gary Steel and her mother worked at the local elementary school in the cafeteria. She spent her early years in Indiana bumming around with her little brother Buddy and their friends. As a teenager, she worked as a carhop and waitress and in the last few years loved to visit Sonic for a Cherry Coke and tell stories of her years on roller skates. One of her friends introduced her to a handsome biker Irvin Dunsdon, who had just gotten out of the military. They married on June 12, 1965, in Gary, IN, and together had 5 children. They lived their first few years in Indiana before moving to Pleasant Grove, Utah to raise their family. They were later divorced. She married Dennis Montag and gained two additional children she loved as her own through that marriage. After 35 years of marriage, they were divorced. She lived in many places throughout Utah Valley before heading to sunny St. George, Utah with the plans to grow old there. As her health declined she was fortunate enough to have her youngest daughter, Stacie Lynn, move in to help take care of her. They spent many years together taking care of each other and had a very special bond. When that was no longer working we brought them up to Provo to be closer to others who could help. Betty spent most of her life as a caregiver working at nursing homes for the disabled and elderly. She also worked in home health. When she wasn’t working to take care of people, she was taking care of her family including a beloved brother in law, mother in law and finally her own mother. She was filled with compassion and love for everyone that she cared for. As her health declined she was able to receive the loving care she so freely gave from people in the field she loved. She was able to live her last few years in the Beehive Home of Provo assisted living facility and received the best care we could ever hope for. She was a collector of angels and elephants. She had a green thumb and could grow anything and bring plants on the brink of death back to thriving beauty. She loved to decorate for every holiday and make them magical and memorable. She was the best cook and we all have a favorite meal she would make for us when we would visit. She was a sweet and loving grandma and took such pride in all of her grandkids' accomplishments. She was the best mom! Betty is survived by her children: Paula Sue, Janett (Brett), Irvin Paul, Tracie Jo, Samantha Lynn, Jeri Ruth (Brennin), and Jayson; 14 loving grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, older brother Bob Taylor (Tammey) and baby sister Mary Fonner. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Buddy, sister Karen, and brother John. She was followed in death by her loving daughter Stacie Lynn on July 20, 2020. Our family would like to recognize and thank the caregivers at Beehive Home of Provo and the nurses at Tendercare Hospice for the loving care you gave our mother while in your care. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo, Utah, Pavilion at the Cremation Garden (West End). Please bring your own chair, wear a mask, and observe social distancing. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.
