Charles LaMar Fillmore Obituary (1929

Charles LaMar Fillmore, 88, passed away a wealthy man on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Payson. His treasures were his family and his reward now is his reunion with his wife Elaine and those that have gone on before. Born, May 17, 1929 in Payson, the first son of Charles Henry and Clara Eloise Pace Fillmore. LaMar, the name he went by in his youth, grew up during the depression era with his parents and younger brother Max, 2 older sisters, Afton, Marie and baby sister Carma. In 1933 the family lost their father; LaMar was 4. His capable mother took on the support of the family. LaMar worked on his Uncles farm in Nephi, played and explored with his brother Max, and helped with the chores and milked the family cow. Charles took on many jobs in his youth finding his career in the Coin Machine business. LaMar graduated from Provo High in 1947, and attended BYU. He married Louise Hatch (divorced) in 1949; they were blessed with his only daughter, Sharlee. In 1953 he was drafted into the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning he met and married June Elaine Carlson in 1956. Together they raised their family in the Oak Hills 1st Ward in Provo and were together for 55 years until her passing in 2011. Charles is kind, friendly and generous to a fault. He enjoyed serving in the LDS church with positons in the Elders, and High Priest Quorums, Bishoprics, and as a Home Teacher and Scout Master. He enjoyed Golfing, Bowling, Hunting and Traveling. He loved his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He taught us all to enjoy life. He will be missed, but we are comforted to know that he now joins those that have gone on before. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Max, sisters, Afton and Marie. Charles is survived by his younger sister Carma, (Jae Ballif) of Provo. Charles is also survived by his six children: Sharlee (Bill) Vestal, Denver, CO; Charles David (Jose) Fillmore, Honolulu, HI; Scott (Kim) Fillmore, Provo, UT; Lynn (Jeannie) Fillmore, Orem, UT; John (Debbie) Fillmore, Nephi, UT and Doug (Janna) Fillmore, Highland, UT; along with 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the LDS Orem 1st Ward located at 80 S 280 E, Orem, UT 84058. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Center Street, Wednesday evening from 6-8 and at the church Thursday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Payson City Cemetery.
