    Dana D. Dean

    April 6, 1947 - June 17, 2017

    Dana Dorwell Dean, 70, of Provo, Utah, passed away early Saturday morning, June 17, 2017, at the Provo Rehab and Nursing facility. He was born Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947, in Great Falls, Montana, to Raymond Eugene Dean and Mary Gwendolyn Dean-Schofield. He was the eldest of four children. Dana attended schools in Valier, MT, Star Valley, WY, Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, and University of Phoenix in Orem and Salt Lake City, UT. At BYU he studied art and psychology but earned a master's degree in business administration at University of Phoenix. Dana became a pilot of small, single-engine planes as a teenager, and later became an aircraft mechanic. He and his wife and family spent five years in the Anchorage/Matanuska Valley area of Alaska where he sold hardware (nuts and bolts on the North Slope). After moving back to the "lower 48," Dana became involved in the convenience store business-- Circle K (one year), Maverik Convenience Stores (29 years), and Harts (two years). Dana joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his parents at age 11 when they lived in Star Valley, WY, and served a mission in Anaheim, CA (and surrounding areas) and Phoenix, AZ. He has held many different callings during the past 59 years, culminating with serving as bishop in the Pioneer 2nd Ward, Provo Utah Central Stake, for six years and three months. He was married to Carol Deanne Peine on November 21, 1970, in the LDS Manti Temple in Manti, UT. Six children were born to them, and they adopted two sons. Dana was preceded in death by his father and oldest daughter, Randilyn Kae. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Provo; his mother, Gwendolyn (Charles) Dean-Schofield of Farmington, NM; son, Dallin (Robyn) of Sandy, UT; son, Rhett (Lisa) of Lehi, UT; daughter, Danae' of Snoqualmie, WA; daughter, McKenna of Provo, UT; daughter, Menolli (Brian) Quick of Saratoga Springs, UT; son, Robert; son, Jonathan (Taylor) of Ogden, UT; Indian placement daughter, Tina (Cornell) Benally of Mesa, AZ; 18 grandchildren and siblings, Alan (Debbie) Dean of York, NE; Melody (Dennis) Ivie of Farmington, NM-now serving a mission at the San Juan Saints Museum in Bluff, UT; and Cherry (Dennis) Boggs, of Billings, MT. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Provo Central Stake Center, 450 North 1220 West, Provo, Utah. Friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
