    Darrel Lewis Clegg

    July 12, 1927 - February 20, 2017

Darrel Lewis Clegg was born 7/12/1927. He died 2/20/2017 of natural causes. Darrel was born in Vineyard, Utah to Lewis and Reva Jane Stewart Clegg. He loved growing up on a dairy farm, which he would later own and manage. Darrel participated in sports and graduated from Lincoln High. He served a mission for the LDS church in West Canada 1950-1952. He also served in the US Armed Forces from 1952-1960, where he was chosen to be an instructor out of 30 candidates. Darrel attended BYU and later met his wife-to-be there. He married Beth Wardell December 12, 1961. Together they raised 7 children. They later divorced. Darrel was proud to have excelled in breeding outstanding registered Holstein Cows. He was known for his charm and wit. He had a thorough knowledge of the bible and followed the Anglo-Saxon Federation. Darrel had an amazing work ethic-working from before dawn until dark every day until his retirement. He was highly resourceful and a jack-of-all-trades. He was a paragon of tenacity, independence and strength of will. He attracted attention wherever he went with an unusual hat adorned with colorful and eclectic pins from around the world. Darrel enjoyed attending the LDS singles dances. He made many good friends there. Special thanks to his dear friend Julie Marini who was his best friend. Thanks also to Don and Anabel for taking Darrel with them on their many cross-country trips. The Clegg Pond, Powell Slough, was his favorite place. He spent many happy hours landscaping around it, built his retirement home there and enjoyed raising Koi fish. Darrel is survived by his children Kim D. Olsen, Darren L. Clegg (Pam), Elayna Wightman (Paul), Alexandra Jaynan Lynch (Kevin Siegelbaum), Larayn Clegg, Dayna Clegg (David Albrethsen) and Dallin W. Clegg and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Norma Jensen (Darrell) and Anabel Savage (Don). Darrel is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Floyd W. Clegg, George Udell Clegg and Reva Luana Fresh. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo, Utah. There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
