Dee LaMar Grose
April 27, 1936 - February 23, 2019
Dee LaMar Grose, loving husband, father, and grandfather returned to his heavenly home on February 23, 2019. Dee was born April 27, 1936 in Park City, Utah to Charles and Eva Grose. Dee was raised in Park City and graduated from Park City High School. After his graduation he attended Salt Lake Vocational School and earned a degree in Electronics. He then served a mission to the North Central States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission, while working in Salt Lake City, Dee dated and married the love of his life, Carolyn Frkovich, in the Salt Lake Temple on April 29, 1960. He and Carolyn settled down in Salt Lake City, where they raised their three children. Dee’s service in the church was important to him. Scouting had a special place in his heart, and defined the positions that he served in throughout his life. Dee served in the church as a Ward Clerk to three Bishops, was a member of the High Council, served as an Ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple, and was involved in Scouting for 40+ years. He served as a Scout Master of Troop 41, Chapter Advisor for the Order of the Arrow, and various other scouting assignments. Dee was recognized with a District Award of Merit in 1981. In 1986, the Boy Scouts recognized Dee for his outstanding service and dedication to helping hundreds of young men by awarding him the Silver Beaver. In 2001, Dee and Carolyn served an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Russia, St. Petersburg Mission. Dee and Carolyn created, organized, and ran a Young Men’s program; literally writing the book for the program. The program was patterned after the scouting program for the entire mission area. His experience and service touched the lives of many young men both in Utah and Russia. Dee enjoyed spending time with his family, but most especially, with his wife, Carolyn. Dee and Carolyn had a very loving and tender relationship. Dee was continually helping the love of his life, standing by her side and supporting her in all of her activities. When Carolyn served as Relief Society President, Dee was given the nickname “The Third Counselor” by the Bishop for all of his service and support to the Relief Society activities; especially working in the kitchen, and helping behind the scenes. Dee would also help cook dinner, bottle fruit, do dishes, help with housework, gardening, genealogy, and support Carolyn with her various projects. Dee and Carolyn loved to walk to church together every Sunday in good weather and enjoyed attending the temple together. Dee enjoyed spending time with Carolyn taking walks, dancing, fishing, camping, traveling, and sleeping through the news on the couch. He and Carolyn have many special memories together and are a great example of love and devotion; they were married almost 59 years. Dee also enjoyed supporting and spending time with his three children. He spent many hours at Hygea Ice Rink (no longer in existence), the old Salt Palace, Bountiful Recreation Center and Cottonwood Heights Ice Rink supporting his sons’ love of hockey. He also spent time at many dance and music recitals with his daughter. He taught his children and grandchildren a love of the outdoors spending countless hours with his family camping, fishing and hunting. He loved to spend time with his children and his wife and made every trip special. The Uinta Mountains were a favorite destination where Dee fished many of the lakes and streams as well as backpacked across the mountain range. He also enjoyed deer and elk hunting with his father and brother and took his children every opportunity he had. As his children grew he altered his hunting to align with their enjoyment for duck and goose hunting. In the autumn, Dee spent many days with his children hunting ducks and geese in Locomotive Springs, Farmington Bay, Utah Lake, Topaz, and Clear Lake. He even made special trips to hunt in Texas, Nebraska and Canada. The hours spent in the outdoors are memories that are special and he took every opportunity to teach life lessons and give fatherly advice. Dee loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He made several trips to Maine to be with his grandsons and support them in significant life milestones. In later life, Dee moved his home to Provo, Utah so he and Carolyn could be close to their grandchildren. He loved to be close to family and played an active part of their everyday lives supporting and serving them. He loved to play with them, pick them up from school, attend their concerts and performances, build projects with them, shoot BB guns, take them fishing, tell them stories and help them only as a loving grandfather can. He was active in our lives right up to the end of his life taking his time to be with his family and grandchildren serving and loving them everyday. Dee also enjoyed music, photography, woodworking, auto mechanics and reading and studying ancient peoples. Dee was always soft spoken and kind to all. He would help neighbors, friends, family and strangers without thought to himself. He would be found shoveling snow, helping with car repair, and many other acts of service. Sweetheart, Dad, Grandpa, your loss is felt by each of us. You will be remembered with love and many happy memories. Your examples of service, love and kindness will guide all of our lives and have lasting impacts throughout this earthly life and into the next. We love you and miss you! You were an example to us all! Dee is preceded in death by his father, Charles Kenneth Grose and mother, Eva Lena Zenger Grose. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Frkovich Grose; brother, Max Grose (Diane) of Heber, Utah; three children: Laurie Grose Poulson (Marsh) of Salt Lake, Trent Grose of Long Beach, CA and Joel Kent Grose (Julianne) of Provo; and six grandchildren: Arlo Marsh Poulson IV, Murray Dee Poulson, Miles Madison Poulson, Madelyn Mabel Grose, Gavin Joel Grose and Hayden Dee Grose.
