Douglas Lee Ball Obituary (1932

Douglas Lee Ball – Our Hero! Doug Ball was born in Lehi, UT February 7, 1932, to parents William Ball and Dorothy Matsen. Doug graduated from Provo High in 1950. On June 30, 1950, he joined the Navy and served as a Boiler Engineer on the USS Iowa. He received the Korean Service Medal (2 Stars), United Nations Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. After being discharged from the Navy, he married Barbara Farrer. He worked as a volunteer in the Provo Fire Department from 1957-1963, then was appointed as a full-time firefighter. He was appointed ambulance officer in 1967. Doug became the first paramedic in Provo after attending the first paramedic school in Utah at Weber State College in 1975. He worked for Provo City until he retired on August 29, 1987. After retirement, he was an entrepreneur. Doug was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a very generous man to neighbors and friends. Doug is survived by 2 sisters, Marilyn and Renae; 5 children: Teresa Dorsett, Pahrump, NV; Doug Ball, Barnett, MO; Cindy Marrott, Provo, UT; Julie Peterson, Eagle Mountain, UT; and Linda Ostler, Greely, CO; 14 grandchildren: Laura, Emily, Andrew, Tyler, Stanton, Averie, Amy, Mandy, Dannielle, Jessica, Seth, Brandon, Michael, April and Erica; 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Doug passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family February 9, 2022. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo, Utah.
