Earl R. Prete Obituary (1927

Earl R. Prete, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Provo, Utah on May 4, 2019. Earl was born on July 8, 1927 in Pleasantdale, Saskatchewan, Canada to John Henry Prete and Mae Englesby Prete. He was the fifth of twelve children. Earl spent his early childhood on the family farm in Saskatchewan. He served a LDS mission in Great Britain. Upon returning, he married Marilyn Davis of Genola, Utah in the Salt Lake Temple on April 3, 1953. He then began working as a ranch hand until deciding to further his education, and enrolled at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho for two years. He then finished his education at BYU, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Education. In 1968, Earl began his teaching career at Farrer Jr. High School where he taught Utah History for 20 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed farming and had a passion and love for raising horses and cattle. Earl faithfully served in many church callings throughout his life, including serving a mission in 1995 with Marilyn in the Utah Provo Mission. He is survived by his three sons and one daughter: Craig (Terry), Farrell (Pam), Warren (Janice) and Daunna (Scott) Smith; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; six siblings and one grandson. We extend our heartfelt love and appreciation to Encompass Hospice and other caretakers for the exceptional care they provided in Earl’s final months. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Parkway 8th Ward Chapel, 2876 West 1390 North, Provo, Utah. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
