Ellen Bowen Kartchner

–

Provo, Utah

Ellen Beverley Bowen Kartchner passed from this life on September 4, 2011 surrounded by her loving daughters.

She was born December 25, 1927 in Spanish Fork, Utah to John Evans Bowen, Jr. and Hannah Ellen McKell Bowen. She spent a very happy childhood in Southern Idaho. She loved her parents and her brothers and sister and was very proud of her heritage.

Ellen met Kenner Casteel Kartchner, Jr. while attending Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 5, 1947. She loved her husband and his family very much.

Ellen had a firm testimony of the LDS Church and a knowledge of her loving Savior and Heavenly Father. She served in many leadership capacities in the LDS Church and was gifted with the ability to teach the principles of the gospel through her actions and service to others.

Ellen was wise beyond her years. She loved learning and especially loved Shakespeare. She had a wonderful speaking voice and was always kind and gracious. She had a quick wit and a delightful sense of humor. She was a good friend and neighbor. Her home was a warm, welcoming place that was always open to family and friends. She was a gifted cook and always had a little more food on Sunday just in case a niece or nephew who were in Provo for school wanted to drop by for a hug and a good home cooked meal, which they often did.

Ellen was truly an elect lady and faithful daughter of God. We will miss her. She is survived by her daughters: Jane Ellen (Craig) Jensen, Shauna (Greg) Miller, Ann (Don) Olsen, and Camille (Rex) Cannon; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and her loving sister Blanche Miles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter Cynthia; son John Kenner; brother John and his wife Dorothy, brother Reed and his wife Beulah and brother-in-law Douglas Coy Miles.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Pleasant View 2nd Ward Chapel, 650 Stadium Ave., Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Monday evening from 6 until 8 and at the church Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
