    George William "Skip" Chilcoat

    March 16, 1947 - January 4, 2022

George William “Skip” Chilcoat, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully in his home in Orem, Utah on January 4, 2022. He was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on March 16, 1947 to Phyllis Kathleen Burdick and William Louis Chilcoat. He was the oldest of three siblings, Leslie Diane Chilcoat Sisney and Robert Lewis “Bobbie” Chilcoat. Skip was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a missionary in the Argentina Mission. Upon return from his mission, he attended Arizona State University where he completed his bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees. While working on his bachelor’s degree, Skip met the love of his life, Cindy Lynn (Smith) Chilcoat and after a short courtship, they were married in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Skip taught US history at Greenway High School in Phoenix, Arizona, and was a professor of education at the University of Texas at Arlington and at Brigham Young University. He loved teaching, reading, telling stories, watching movies, doing research, and writing. It didn’t matter if he was at the grocery store, in a restaurant or on the street, Skip made a personal connection with everyone he met. Skip is survived by his wife, Cindy Lynn (Smith) Chilcoat; children: Chrisitan (Tammy) Chilcoat, Heather Day, Stormi (Rick) Winscot, Summer (Mark) Resch; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and his siblings: Leslie Sisney and Robert “Bobbie” Chilcoat. Skip was preceded in death by his parents, William and Phyllis Chilcoat and his son, Garth Chilcoat. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2022 at the Cherry Hill 2nd Ward Chapel, 1700 South 400 East, Orem, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Sunday, January 9, from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Monday, from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
