Gerald Hanks Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gerald Mathew Hanks, age 89, of Provo, passed away on November 5, 2012. He was born on July 3, 1923 to Francis Dewey Hanks and Erma Lillian Grant, and grew up in Salem, Utah. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School. On February 6, 1943, he married Orpha Wignall and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. During World War II he served in the Army in the Pacific Theatre where he was awarded the Bronze Star. For 38 years, he worked as a head heater in the rolling mills at Geneva Steel. Gerald loved being in the mountains camping, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved doing anything he could with his grandchildren. He was active in the Spanish Fork Seniors, and enjoyed their trips to Wendover. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his children: Jerry W. (MeriDene) Hanks, Lorna Kay Lloyd, Stephen M. Hanks, Randy L. (Mirta) Hanks, Gerald Kevin (Pam) Hanks; 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sweet friend Alma Warner. He was preceded in death by his wife Orpha, son David Neil Hanks, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street. Friends may call at the mortuary Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Salem City Cemetery.
