Glen Reed Brown Obituary (1925

Glen Reed Brown, 91, born to Cleveland Wright Brown and Wilmirth Hortense Brown on November 7, 1925, in Provo, Utah, died peacefully of natural causes on January 26, 2017. Glen grew up in Provo where he met the love of his life, Betty Ruth Ellison. They were married on May 28, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple and enjoyed 56 wonderful years. He graduated from Provo High School and served in the United States army in World War II. He attended both BYU and Stanford University. Glen earned his PhD from BYU. He served many years as the principal of Joaquin, Provost and Edgemont Elementary Schools. He was Director of the Youth Center at the State Hospital and Director of the Regional Mental Health Center. He taught at BYU and UVU. He was a popular speaker in the intermountain area. Glen was a very devoted public servant in Provo. His service included the following: School Board, Water Board, Cultural Affairs Commission, and Chair of the Freedom Festival. He was Director on the Board of the Central Utah Water Project and participated on the Metropolitan Water Board. He pioneered a recreational program for disabled youth in Utah County. Glen served in many leadership capacities in the LDS Church. He had an insatiable love of the outdoors and taught his family to respect and appreciate the beauty of nature. Hobble Creek Canyon was his favorite spot where he most often hunted and fished. His passion was spending time there with his father and brothers, then later with Betty, his children, and grandchildren. No one cooked a better breakfast or a meaner hamburger on an open fire! His specialty was cooking frozen eggs. He is survived by his seven children: Michael (Leslie), Barry (Debbie), Kelly (Sharon), JaNae Haas, Danny, Bonnie (Dirk) DeGraw, and Julie (Claudia) Brown, 20 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his dear wife, Betty. He was the last survivor of the nine children born to his beloved parents. We celebrate his life and we will miss him greatly. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Provo Peak 2nd Ward Chapel, 965 North Locust Lane, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Monday, January 30, from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Tuesday, from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
