John Hanton Obituary (1921

John "Jack" Hanton, age 91, formerly of Livonia, Michigan, passed away peacefully Monday, September 17, 2012 after a sudden heart attack in Provo, Utah. Jack was the last child to be born to Henry and Maria Morrison Hanton. Jack joined his 5 older siblings, Nina, Bea, Olive, Lloyd and Earle, in their Windsor, Ontario, Canada home. He married his sweetheart, Catherine Watt, on January 22, 1943 and they spent a happy, nearly-70 years together. Shortly after their marriage, he joined the US Navy where he served in the engine room on the USS Edmunds, a destroyer escort, in the South Pacific. The Edmunds, the "luckiest ship in the navy", was in 7 major invasions and saw plenty of action, but was never hit, although a torpedo once passed directly under the ship. He was employed for many years by Triangle Broach Company. He is survived by his wife, Cathie; his sons John and William (Peggy); grandchildren Philip, David, Andrew (Denise), Bethany (Paul) Lundgreen, Justin (Bonnie Jean), and Brianna; and nine great grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by all his siblings and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29th at the FredWood Rice Chapel Funeral Home at 36100 Five Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48154. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. preceding the funeral. Interment will be in the Grand Lawn Cemetery.
