    Laurie Christensen Maynes

    September 2, 1952 - February 26, 2018

Laurie Afton Christensen Maynes passed away February 26, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born September 2, 1952 in Roosevelt, Utah to Dean and Afton Christensen. She has two brothers and two sisters: Jed, Sherrie, Kim, and Wendy. She spent most of her growing up years in Provo, UT. She came to love music and became a very good pianist. After High School graduation she attended Snow College where she met Alan Maynes. They were married March 20, 1973 in the Manti Temple. They had 5 boys and 2 girls: Jeffrey (Angie), Timothy (Melissa), Andrew (Lisa), Sally (Dustin), Neal (Karamie), Brady (Elisabeth), and Cami (Preston). They currently have 19 grandchildren at this date. Alan taught Seminary and Institute, so over the years they moved and took several different assignments: Circleville, UT; St. George, UT; Alta Loma, CA; and Price, UT. Laurie was very active in the LDS Church serving many years in both the Primary and the Relief Society. She especially loved the ward choir. Laurie kept a daily journal for most of her life so she could pass down her thoughts and testimony to her posterity. Laurie loved the Lord Jesus Christ and his restored gospel with all her heart, might, mind, and soul. She loved reading the scriptures, listening to the church leaders speak, associating with the saints, and attending the temple regularly. She also loved scrapbooking her children and grandchildren’s lives. Laurie enjoyed doing puzzles and she loved any homemade treat, especially warm chocolate chip cookies. It was common to find her laughing and one of her greatest joys was laughing with her children, grandchildren, and sweetheart. Always more reserved, she was an amazing listener. Alan and Laurie served two missions together: Colorado Denver South 2010-2013 and Mongolia Humanitarian Mission 2015-2017. They loved to serve the Lord together. Laurie is the love of Alan’s life. She is the best thing that has ever happened to him. She is truly an elect lady, with a pure heart and mind; one of the most Christ-like people you will ever meet. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Helper Stake Center, 150 Ridgeway Street, Helper, Utah. Family and friends may visit at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Monday, March 5 from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. The burial will take place at the Provo City Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Condolences may be expressed at www.bergmortuary.com.
