March 1, 1956 - June 25, 2016
Our lovely mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandma, and friend- Lorie Larsen Blair, 60, of Orem, UT passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the early morning hours on June 25, 2016. Lorie was born March 1, 1956 to Kent and Marquitta (Campbell) Larsen in Provo, UT. Her family soon relocated to Huntington Beach, CA where she spent her childhood falling in love with the sun and the beach. Lorie loved spending time with her sisters and brother. She spoke fondly of riding her bike along the coast and spending summers pumping gas for her dad and working at Joe’s Beach Hut. She graduated from Huntington Beach High School where she made wonderful friends; many of whom she kept in contact with throughout her life. She loved to play tennis and played for the varsity team in high school. She returned to Utah to attend nursing school at Brigham Young University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. In 1979, Lorie married Denton Johnston of Provo, UT. They were married for sixteen years, had three children, and lived in Orem, UT. Although their marriage did not last, their friendship stood the test of time. In 1998, Lorie was married to her best friend and soulmate Dr. TJ Blair of Provo, UT. The eighteen years they had together were filled with love, laughter, family and adventure. She loved to host parties at their home in Orem and made everyone feel welcomed and loved. Lorie loved to go on vacations with TJ and bought a Christmas ornament from everywhere they visited. She loved to spend time outdoors hiking, camping and especially boating. She found a spiritual serenity in nature but particularly at Lake Powell. She taught us all to be grateful for what God has created. Lorie loved spending time with her grandchildren as often as possible. Lorie was so excited anytime grandkids were coming to visit; they could often be found cuddled up in her recliner together watching a movie or playing games on her IPad. They had inside jokes and stories and would erupt in laughter together. She knew something unique about each of them and was delighted anytime she had something to share with one of them. She took an active interest in their toys and games and could often be heard asking the kids how things were going instead of chatting with the adults. Lorie was deeply passionate about her career. She knew from a young age she would spend her life helping others through nursing. Lorie took pride in patient care and was a patient advocate and educator. She was valued by doctor colleagues for her physician support and problem solving. She began her career at Utah Valley Hospital as a floor nurse. She moved to Laguna Beach for a short time where she worked at Saddleback Community Hospital. When she returned to Utah she worked in med-surg at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center until 1987 when she began her work as a Nurse Practitioner at the Cancer Center. She spent several years caring for cancer patients and loved each and every one. She spent a few years caring for children throughout Provo School District until she found her dream job at the University of Utah Medical Center in the Neurology Department. She said so many times that practicing at the U of U was the best job she ever had. She loved her patients and coworkers immensely. Lorie loved to have fun and could bring light and love to any situation. To the end she was supporting, loving, encouraging, smiling, and keeping all of us brave. Not a day will pass that we won’t miss our sweet Lorie, and while our hearts are heavy with sorrow now, we know her love shines through us and everyone she touched. Lorie is survived by her husband TJ Blair; children Megan Johnston, Hayley Johnston, Brett Troy Johnston, Shiloh Blair (Jon) Tomlinson, Kathan (Laurie) Blair, Jacoy Blair (Jon) Baird, and Skyler (Gen) Blair; parents Kent and Marquitta Larsen; sister Jayne (Brent) Mooney; brother Les (Mia) Larsen; grandchildren Frankie, Andie, Jeven, Azure, Trusen, Taizyl, Kaidan, Brynley, Connor, Kenzie, Maia, Paxton, Lucette.
