Lula Mae Davis Obituary (1937

Lula Mae Davis, 82, passed away April 3, 2020 in West Valley City, peacefully in her sleep from chronic kidney disease and post-polio syndrome. Born July 23rd, 1937 in Kanosh, Utah to Thomas R and Lucy Belle Thompson Chandler. She married Melvin Lester Davis July 2nd, 1958 in Las Vegas, Nevada; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple August 22nd, 1977. She spent her early childhood growing up and working on her grandma’s farm in Kanosh until 8 years old, when she moved to Salt Lake City with her mom. Her brother was born when she was 14 years old and she spent most of her teen years taking care of and raising him. Lula was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings but her favorite was as a nursery leader, where she served for 15 years. She loved the children and they loved her. She was known as “Grandma Lula.” She served as a service missionary in the Salt Lake City Mission from August 13, 2007 to February 13, 2009. Lula had a testimony of the gospel, plan of salvation, and eternal families. She loved her Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. One of her favorite songs was I Know That My Redeemer Lives. Lula worked hard and served many. She worked as a housekeeper, care giver, and home health aide. She was a home health aide for over 30 years. While working, she also cared for her husband and mother before they passed away. Lula loved animals and had many pets − fish, birds, cats and dogs. She had many hobbies − gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, collecting mugs, and making something from nothing to decorate and make her house a home. She loved to cook and she would often share her cooking with others. Lula loved kids and enjoyed babysitting. She was a grandma to all children she came in contact with. If you were her friend, you were her family. She cared deeply and cherished her family and friends. Lula was thoughtful and tried to remember your birthday, pray for you, and worry about you. She would share and give to others even when she didn't have much herself. She had a sense of humor and loved to tell jokes and put a smile on your face. She is survived by her brother, James (Annette) Butters, nephew, nieces, great-nieces and nephews, and friends who loved and cared for her like family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L Davis; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Davis; mother, Lucy Belle Thompson Butters; aunts and uncles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there was no public viewing or funeral. A small private graveside was held Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the South Jordan Cemetery, where she was laid to rest.
