Mae Lisonbee, age 95, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2016, in Highland, Utah, from natural causes. She was born in Ogden, Utah on July 2, 1921 to Leo John Flaherty and Cora Simpson. At the age of nine her family moved to Los Angeles, California.
She married Frederick Q. Lisonbee on May 5th, 1942 in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). Their marriage was a classic case of teamwork and sharing. They reared five children, Dennis (Laurie), Cynthia (Rodger), Carolyn (Gary), Cherylee (Kent), Steven (Barbara). She is survived by 24 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Our loving mother and grandmother will be greatly missed.
During World War II Mae was a “Rosie the Riveter” who welded motors for battleships and airplanes. When paid half as much as the men, Mae challenged and won one of the first equal pay for equal work cases.
Mae’s life was devoted to the service of her family and those who needed a champion, friend and angel. Mae served for over ten years as the Stake Relief Society President for the Mount Rubidoux LDS women’s organization in Riverside, California. For 30 years she served as the only woman on the LDS Colton, California Bishop's Storehouse committee. She also successfully served on a pilot LDS service mission for the Presiding Bishopric Office as a social worker for Deseret Industries.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manila 2nd Ward Chapel, 850 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah. Friends may call at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be Monday, November 28, 2016 (time will be determined) in the Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
