Mary Lorraine Nixon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary Lorraine Nixon, 90, lovingly known as “Grandma Nixon”, passed away quietly in her home surrounded by those she loved, Saturday, June 13 2015. Lorraine was born September 26, 1924 in Provo, Utah to John and Mary Linde. She was the second of two children. She attended Provo High where her artistic abilities were recognized by others and where she also played the piano winning multiple awards. She graduated from BYU with a degree in accounting where she also worked for 25 years doing something she enjoyed with people she loved. While in college mother was also a member of the BYU ski team where she earned a number of trophies over the years. She married her sweetheart, James W Nixon, April 15, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. Both “Jay” and Lorraine passionately loved horses which they took with them on their Honeymoon! They built their ranch of 40 plus purebred horses and traveled all over the country and Canada showing their horses. She rode her horses with such grace and beauty winning national contests with their ‘Nixon Arabians’. Mother loved animals, she was always taking care of the injured, strays, and any animal that came her way. Mother was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a strong testimony of the gospel and loved to serve others. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jim. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Diana) Nixon and John (Shayleen) Nixon; two granddaughters, Tiffani and Eliza Nixon; and her brother, Jack Linde. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Edgemont 4th Ward Chapel, 4056 N. Timpview Dr. (650 East), Provo, Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.
