    Mildred "Millie" Harris Nielsen

    August 27, 1939 - July 23, 2016

Mildred “Millie” Harris Nielsen, 76, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2016 in Orem, Utah. She was born August 27, 1939 in Preston, Idaho to Ersel and Dayle Goaslind Harris. She lived in Preston for a few years before moving to Logan, Utah. She is a graduate of Logan High School. She is third of five children who were all very close throughout their lives and always made an effort to spend time together. Millie was no stranger to hard work and serving others. She often made the rounds throughout her neighborhood to visit with neighbors, often to share goodies. Millie was an incredible homemaker; her home was always clean and organized. She was an excellent cook and was known for her homemade fudge, scalloped potatoes, made-from-scratch breads, roast beef dinners, meatloaf and many other family-favorites. She was a fantastic grandmother spoiling her grandkids from their birth. In September of 1962, she married Lynn William Nielsen of Downey, Idaho in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Downey the first few years of marriage, later moving to Pocatello, ID, while Lynn finished his schooling at ISU. From there they moved to Moses Lake, WA, and in 1971 to Rock Springs, WY where they lived until 1989. For the last 27 years, Millie resided in Orem, UT. Every place she lived she developed countless, life-long friends. Millie and Lynn served a mission for the LDS church to the Columbia, SC mission in 2007. Millie loved all people regardless of their background and circumstances. She was an incredible example of service many times taking people into her home to help their situation. She loved family gatherings and loved her children and grandchildren with a perfect love. She is survived by her children, David Nielsen (Bonnie) Orem, UT, Douglas Nielsen (Scott Johnson) Salt Lake City, UT, Mindi Winstanley (Ron) Grand Junction, CO. She has 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with a third expected in September. Grandchildren: Samantha Johnson, Alex Johnson, Jessica Nielsen, Preston Nielsen, Nicholis Johnson, Derek Winstanley, Nicole Nielsen, Devin Winstanley, Kaitlin Nielsen, Garrett Nielsen, Addison Winstanley, Ashley Nielsen, and Regan Winstanley (deceased). Great-grandchildren, Reagan Leavitt and Riley Leavitt. Siblings: Lucy Wallace (Weir - deceased) Logan, UT, Claire Harris (Pat - deceased) Lewiston, ID, (Larry Harris deceased) Bernice, Logan, UT, Arlene Mallory (Sanford), Smithfield, UT, Danny Harris (Polly), Logan, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn, her parents Ersel and Dayle Harris, her brother, Larry Harris, and a grandchild, Regan Winstanley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Stonewood 4th Ward Chapel, 450 South 100 West, Orem, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Orem, 500 North State Street, Thursday evening, August 4, from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Friday, from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
