Rae Baker Morris Obituary (1917

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Valorie Lund in Layton, Utah. Rae Nola Baker Morris was born in North Creek, Utah on May 9, 1917 to Daniel Ray and Edith Sylvia Twitchell Baker. She was their sixth child, and was welcomed into the family by her siblings, Raymond, Shirley, Luella, Loretta and Vyron. Her father died when she was 6 months old. Her mother died when she was only 13. Her step-father, Harry Green, was kind and loving to the family, but she dearly missed her mother. She loved her brothers and sisters, and they taught her to love the outdoors, and wide open spaces. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School, and shortly thereafter married Wm. Ormond Morris in the St. George Temple on May 6, 1936. Together they raised 5 daughters and one son. She influenced each of them with her strong testimony, her hard work ethic, her kindness to everyone and her optimistic attitude. She loved everyone and opened her doors to many people. Her basement was almost always full with one person or another. She loved little children and they always knew that she loved them no matter what they had done. She loved to quilt and made a new quilt for every baby in her ward for several years. All of her kids and grandkids have benefitted from her love of quilting. At one time she made over 100 quilts for the humanitarian project and was featured on the Spoken Word. She had a deep love for her ancestors and spent a great deal of her time writing histories and stories about them. She loved her Savior and had a strong testimony of His atonement. Her life can be summed up in just a few words: She was a choice daughter of our Heavenly Father. She spent her life in the service of others. She is survived by 4 daughters, 1 son: Carlene (Dan, dec.) Jepperson of Orem; John (Roena, dec.) Stevens, Orem; Karen (Glen) Foster, Rigby, ID; DellaRae (Francis, dec.) Anderson, Orem; Neal (Sherian) Morris, Nephi; and Valorie (Gary) Lund, Layton; 30 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, and 43 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ormond, one daughter, Roena, her parents, all of her siblings, 2 sons-in-law, 3 grandchildren, Todd Anderson, Keith Jepperson, and Matthew Morris, and 1 great-grandchild Jason Dynes. The family would like to thank Thatcher Brook Hospice for their wonderful, loving care of Nola. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at the Orem 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 50 South 800 East, Orem. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Orem, 500 North State Street, Wednesday evening, from 6-8 p.m., or Thursday, at the Ward Chapel, one hour prior to services. Interment, Orem City Cemetery.
