Sheila Starr Lovely Mitchell Obituary (1939

Sheila was born December 4, 1939, in Attleboro, Massachusetts to Thomas William and Mary Dorothy Starr Lovely. She passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023. As a little girl she moved to Sheffield Village on the southeast edge of Oakland, California and eventually San Leandro, California where she lived during the ‘50s and attended high school. In 1957 she married and moved to Texas and worked at the Strategic Air Command at Randolph Air Force Base. With the birth of her first child and a move to Germany, she became a stay-at-home mom – eventually to four sons and one daughter, two born in Germany and three in California. During her homemaking years in California, she was actively involved in a parent-participation preschool, PTA, and Scouting and received honors and awards for her service. In 1971 Sheila was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while living in Castro Valley, California. Shortly after, she divorced and moved her family to Utah. Sheila worked for the City/County Health Department, Small World Preschool, Public Systems International, and for several years at Brigham Young University. In 2000 she received the Staff Excellence Award from BYU’s Division of Continuing Education. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from BYU. She also squeezed in several art classes and enjoyed dabbling in oil and watercolor painting, and photography. She was a very talented seamstress and made several beautiful quilts for loved ones. Sheila served in various callings, most recently as an extraordinary Primary teacher, and as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple. She always had a smile on her face and loved her family dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, older sister, Mary who died at birth, and daughter Christine Marie Mitchell. She is survived by her four sons: Thomas (Renee), Dennis, Jeffrey, and Todd and her younger brother, Tom Lovely, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her dog, Chewy Chocolate Chip. Funeral Services are Friday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation with family from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1960 N 1500 E in Provo.
