Shirley Nadine Boyd Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Shirley Nadine Boyd was born May 31, 1941 to Merval and Marie Hutchings Keele in Standardville, Utah. She passed away July 12, 2020 in Provo, Utah. She had one older sister Bonnie Keele and two younger sisters Gail McCloud and Cindy Kropf. She married Carl Boyd February 9, 1960 in Provo, Utah. They had 4 sons Dean, Jerry, Bob and Lynn. Mom was proud to earn retirement from Nestle Frozen Food in 1998. She retained many close friendships with her co-workers over the years. Mom had a heart for the elderly; she would deliver them groceries and visit them for hours. She was a true friend to the lonely. Mom loved spending time with her sisters and looked forward to their lunch dates. Mom loved Dad; they were married for sixty years, through good times and bad. Most mornings you would find them in daily bible study with a cup of coffee, and then they would walk their regular route around the Dixon. Boy, how I would have loved to listen in to what they would talk about on those walks. She loved her sons. She may have dressed us in tough skins, but they were always clean, and she was a great cook to boot. Later in life Mom made a prayer room where she would bombard heaven with prayers for us boys. She took joy in simple things; she would collect pennies and the tabs off the pop cans. She loved spending her “mad money” at the dollar store. She would always send us home with pretzels, chocolate covered raisins, or some little trinket that she thought was neat. I can still see her bopping around camp at Scofield in a red, white and blue bubble blouse and a bright clown nose. Possibly a bit of a cheat at marbles, she’d yell out, “Skoominaroochie!” She won more times than not. She was sweet, compassionate, selfless, kind, loving, and at the end, she was brave and incredibly strong. Mom hurt, but never showed it. Trying to protect us from it, she would smile and give the double thumbs up. We only saw a single tear in her eye when dad died, but in the following days she would repeat “I miss papa” and when she couldn’t talk anymore, you could see it in her eyes, she wanted Heaven. Our parents put God above all else in this life and they would often talk about the great reunion that was to come. To be with the loved ones that have gone on before, but even more to be in the presence of the one they lived life for. Dad was always in a hurry, and he was always waiting on Mom. 11 days up there is probably a blink of an eye, as dad stood just outside heaven waiting for his “Shirley-girl”. So don’t be sad, this is a beautiful love story where they end up together again and home at last. Quiet Time “It’s quiet time” Mom would say. Crawling on her lap by the dining room window, she would point to the tall tree across the street…“See the tree how tall, and how the wind moves the top? God made that for us.” She would hold me, and I felt so safe. In her final hours, I whispered to her, “It’s quiet time Mom” and I wonder what beauty she sees. And I tell her, “God made that for us” as I hold her and hope she feels safe. Graveside services for Carl and Shirley will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens, 1000 North 400 East, Orem, Utah.
