Stanton Lynn McGuire Obituary (1924

The heavenly choir just gained another true bass voice and world-class whistler. On May 25, 2018 our husband, father and grandfather, Stanton Lynn McGuire, passed away at the age of 93 in Orem, Utah. He was born on July 5, 1924 in Tremonton, Utah to Roxie Anna Hales and Herbert Stanton McGuire. He had two younger sisters, Bettie Jane and Patricia Ann who preceded him in death. Stan grew up in Lake Elsinore and Fontana, California. He graduated from Chaffey High School, where he ran track, and The University of Redlands, where he got a degree in Political Science. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps in Washington D.C. Stan married Coreen Thorne in the Salt Lake Temple in 1954. They raised their family in Glendale, California where Stan was a general agent for American National Insurance from 1958 until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed all sports, but especially college football, specifically watching the BYU and USC teams. Stan was an active member of the LDS Church serving as bishop of the Glendale Second Ward from 1977-1982. He later served as a high councilor, high priest group leader and temple worker in the Provo Temple. He and his wife served in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission at the Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial from 1999-2001. Stan is survived by his wife, Coreen and their five children: Richard (Amy), Julie Searfoss (Rick), David (Kristina), Paul (Denise) and Heather Pinder (Randy), 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The family is grateful for the love and care provided by the staff at Covington Village and Elevation Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Edgemont North Stake Center, 4560 North Canyon Road, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Center Street, Friday, June 1, from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Saturday from 9:30-10:45 prior to services. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery.
