Evan Leja
Apprentice Funeral Director
Evan Leja serves as a Funeral Director Apprentice at Berg Mortuary while working toward becoming a licensed funeral director. He is currently enrolled at Arapahoe Community College pursuing a degree in Mortuary Arts. Evan also holds certification through the Cremation Association of North America (CANA), where he trained in both the science and practical operation of cremation. Evan’s path into funeral service began as a teenager during a youth trip where he spent time reflecting on his future and first felt prompted to consider becoming a funeral director. His interest grew during a Boy Scouts career exploration night when he toured a local mortuary and gained his first real insight into the profession. After serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington State, Evan began working at a funeral home in Las Vegas as a crematory operator and funeral assistant. Through that experience, he discovered a deep appreciation for the work and the opportunity to serve families during some of their most difficult moments. Evan later moved to Utah with his wife, Lindsay, and joined the team at Berg Mortuary. He finds great meaning in helping families find peace during times of loss and feels honored to play a role in helping them remember and celebrate their loved ones. Outside of work, Evan enjoys spending time with his wife and friends, playing the accordion, and working on creative hands-on projects. He is also actively involved in his church community where he teaches young children each week. A professional-level accordion player, Evan has earned scholarships two years in a row at the Las Vegas International Accordion Convention. Evan believes that every life deserves to be honored and that every family deserves compassion, patience, and care during life’s most difficult moments.
